Marisa Silva – I’m not wrapped up in it at all

I’m not wrapped up in it at all

She ate from the Gingerbread House too,
but her breadcrumbs weren’t to find her way
home. She wanted her playmates to follow
her deep into the woods, make a banquet
out of gumdrops, candy canes, and vanilla icing.

She pretends she never consumed pieces
of the cookie cottage, like she wasn’t making
backdoor deals with the old cannibal.
She says she escaped being a meal,
never fell into Berchta’s wicked trap—
the bite marks on her arm and neck still bleed.
