LJ Ireton – Inked Earth

From the inked earth grows fern, berry
juniper, cloud lion and stemmed sun.
We garden the universe
and the good in us responds
to the anemone, dianthus, thistle
seed colours in our soul -
we summon them
again and again;
sparrow to artist to poet's pen
speak of the winding stars
that grow around
Alder bodies.
Our arms are tribal branches -
return them to the forest.
