Andrew Buckner – A brushing off of the shoulders, an inconvenience to most

Hopelessly turning to, leafing through
Novels by Fowles and Bukowski
As if the mystery draped around
The bikini-clad navel of existence
Is calling out through chattering teeth—
Mouth moving,
Hair flirtatiously tousled without sound—
And the words dissolve, drown,
Become brittle in the water like ash
And fade from fingers — as my own
Works will (if they haven’t already)
From the collective psyche—
And the rainfall in that moment
Of extinction will be
My memory, my eternity—
A brushing off of the shoulders,
An inconvenience to most,
A page turned,
A lesson unlearned,
One less chain for the ghost.
